Sydney Harbour

Surrounded by historic sites, national parks and hundreds of kilometres of breathtaking shorelines, Sydney Harbour should definitely be on your list of things to experience.

There are various ways to get around and take in the wonderful sights of Sydney Harbour. A ferry can take you from the iconic Circular Quay to the beachfront of Manly, giving you the opportunity to view the Sydney Harbour Headlands along the way. You can also travel beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge in order to arrive at the historic funfair of Luna Park which makes for a fantastic, fun filled family day out. But why end it there? You can escape the bustle of the city with a short-and-sweet ferry ride to Balmain, where you can explore the unique cafes and restaurants, and absorb the eclectic atmosphere of Rozelle and Balmain.

Sydney Harbour is there to be explored at your own pace, and a privately chartered yacht is definitely one of the best ways to accomplish this. Sit back and relax as you pass by some of Sydney Harbour’s famed landmarks, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Taronga Zoo and The Sydney Opera House, all whilst being waited on. The waterways can offer panoramic views of the city, and all you have to do is board a boat!

While touring Sydney Harbour, the islands including Fort Denison, Shark Island, Cockatoo Island and Goat Island are all at your fingertips, and they each hold great historical and cultural significance. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage List is Cockatoo Island, which operated as a convict site between 1839 and 1869.

Another popular event that takes place on Sydney Harbour is the start of one of the world’s great ocean yacht races. On Boxing Day, the world renowned Sydney Hobart Yacht Race sets sail, leaving Sydney Harbour and travelling down the South Coast of NSW to the finish line in Hobart.

Australia Day also tends to bring a terrific vibe to Sydney Harbour, with people travelling from all over to watch the Ferrython and the Australia Day Regatta, which has just celebrated its 180th anniversary.

The phenomenal setting of Sydney Harbour is hard to beat, and it is highly recommended that you explore this area, which is bursting with natural beauty. Bordering Sydney Harbour is the Circle Walk. This 26 kilometre track explores west of the Harbour Bridge and through to Hunters Hill. It is a magnificent, breathtaking walk which focuses on Sydney Harbour itself – the bridges, the large expanse of gleaming waters, the islands and the iconic city skyline. Not to mention the beautiful, natural urban bushland that surrounds the wonderful Sydney Harbour.

The Vivid Sydney Festival is also another must-see event and the most unique place to view this striking light exhibition is from magnificent Sydney Harbour, where you can view the waterside icons in full illumination after nightfall. This event attracts thousands of visitors to Sydney Harbour, and is just another fantastic way to soak up Sydney’s incomparable atmosphere and sites.
